Virtual Ice Breaker Event Extended

Due to some website issues of the weekend, we have extended the deadline to Wednesday, June 2 at 11:59pm.  Make sure to your to get your submissions in to be entered into the draw for some great gift cards.  For those who have already submitted please feel free to better your time and resubmit!

Remember, please respect government guidelines and restrictions, properly clean any equipment, and pay attention to your overall safety and well-being while participating.

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, Row NS has canceled our first on-water regatta of the season, the Ice Breaker Regatta, scheduled for Saturday, May 29, 2021. While this is very unfortunate news, we are looking to offer a Virtual Ice Breaker Event in its place to engage anyone in Nova Scotia, provide an opportunity for competition, but most importantly have fun and stay active. In typical Ice Breaker Regatta fashion, in all events, participants will complete 4.3km, similar to the Around the Lake course on Lake Banook. Recognizing that in our current state, everyone has access to different equipment we are offering four ways to engage with this virtual event – row, erg, run or bike. For the ultimate weekend warrior looking for a challenge – compete in the ergometer, run and bike events for a cumulative time.

  1. Row– see restrictions below in italics
  2. Ergometer
  3. Run
  4. Bike
  5. Ultimate Weekend Warrior

We are asking that participants give what they can as a registration fee for this event. The fees will help recover costs to provide some draw prizes and administering the event. Any money made above our expenses will help Row NS continue our work in growing and developing rowing in Nova Scotia. Our recommended participant fee is $10 however please feel free to give as little or as much as you are comfortable with.

Row

Please note this event is dependent on the restrictions and guidelines in place for Nova Scotia. Only those in who have access to a personal rowing shell may participate.  Please refer to our latest COIVD update for more information. For the many members who will not be able to participate in the rowing event we encourage you to participate in one or all of the other events – ergometer, run and bike.

For the rowing event, any individual registered with RCA and a club can participate. Your 4.3km piece will need to be done either with a GPS SpeedCoach (a picture taken to submit) OR will need to be verified by a registered coach. You can pick any day or time within the duration of the event to complete your “race” on your own body of water. It can be done in any safe wind or weather conditions (we suggest choosing wisely).
