The Ice Breaker Regatta is an annual regatta hosted by Row Nova Scotia on Lake Banook and Lake Mic Mac in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. This regatta is a head race format that has athletes complete a 4.3km loop of the two lakes. This regatta aligns with the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model outlined by Rowing Canada Aviron that has athletes competing at long distances early in the season. The Ice Breaker is open to Novice, Junior, Under 23, Senior, Masters and Para athletes.
Virtual Ice Breaker Regatta
Participation in Row NS’s Ice Breaker Regatta is accepted on the condition that it will not be the basis of any claim, demand or cause for action. The following activities is therefore strictly at your own risk and is your responsibility to perform due diligence before acting upon any of the information provided. Always exercise caution when performing any physical activity without proper safety equipment or direct supervision from a certified coach.
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic Row NS was forced to cancel our first on-water regatta of the season, the Ice Breaker Regatta, scheduled for Saturday May 30, 2020. While this is very unfortunate news, we are looking to offer a Virtual Ice Breaker Regatta in its place to engage anyone in Nova Scotia, provide an opportunity for competition, but most importantly have fun and stay active. In typical Ice Breaker Regatta fashion, participants will complete 4.3km, similar to the Around the Lake course on Lake Banook! There will be two options to participate for those with access to an erg, and for those who do not have access to an erg:
1. 4.3km Erg
2. 4.3km run/wheel
Please attach a picture of your Concept2 monitor verifying your erg piece or a picture verifying your time for the run piece(ie – strava, apple watch, garmin, google map, etc).
- Erg: All age categories will have 1x and mixed 2x events.
- Run/Wheel: All age categories are individual.
For mixed 2x events the cumulative time between the two participants will be used. If rowers are competing in the 1x and mixed 2x event they are only required to submit a single erg time.
Junior (U19), Senior (19+), Masters 1 (27-50), Masters 2 (51+), Para (Open)
You must complete and submit your erg/run/wheel piece between Friday May 29, 2020 at 6:00am (ADT) and Sunday May 31, 2020 at 6:00pm (ADT).
The winners will be celebrated on our social media accounts on Monday June 1, 2020.
All participants will be entered into a random draw for four gift cards to local businesses in the HRM area and announced and contacted on Monday June 1, 2020.
