This past week, Pat Cody has been named the Canada Games/Provincial Head Coach for Row Nova Scotia. Pat will be working with athletes who are interested in representing Nova Scotia at Nationals and at the 2013 Canada Games in Sherbrook Quebec.
Pat began rowing at the Mic Mac Rowing Club in 1986 and later moved to the North Star Rowing Club in 1989. He represented NS at the 1989 and 1993 Canada Summer Games and won a silver medal in ’93.
Pat studied (and rowed) at Brock University and the University of Western Ontario. During his time there he won 7 Henley medals, 10 OUA medals, 7 CURC medals, and 4 U.S. Elite Nationals medals. While he studied and trained in Ontario, he continued to represent Nova Scotia at interprovincial competitions, winning over 20 medals for NS at National Championships. He also represented Canada on the world stage several times, including two appearances at the Senior A. World Championships.
In 2004 Pat returned to NS to become Head Coach of the Mic Mac Rowing Club. During that time he helped to develop the Provincial Team Selection Policy, and create the precursor to the Ice Breaker Regatta. More significantly, he developed rowers, many of whom continue to train and race at a National level. Some of these athletes have also developed into excellent coaches who pass on their passion for the sport.
In 2005 Pat moved to New Brunswick where he was the Head Coach of a successful NB Provincial Team, and coach of the Senior/Junior Competitive programs at Fredericton Rowing Club. After living and working in New Brunswick for over five years, Pat returned to NS in August 2010. His involvement with Row NS continued with becoming the NS rep on the RCA Inter-Provincial Coaches Committee, assisting in leading (planning and delivery) of Canada Games, High Performance and Development training camps and Coordinated the first year of the Row NS High School Recruitment program.
Row NS is fortunate to have a coach of Pat’s calibre undertaking this important role. Pat’s extensive experience, expertise and enthusiasm for rowing will be instrumental in guiding Row NS in building a strong Canada Games team and a strong Provincial rowing program.
